How to Read the Matrix

Rows represent the 12 civilisational relays of the iAAi framework, from Relay 1 (Fire) through Relay 12 (Torus). Columns represent the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. Each cell indicates whether a relay has a primary (direct, operational) or secondary (indirect, enabling) relationship with that SDG.

The matrix reveals that infrastructure is not a single-SDG concern. Every relay touches multiple goals, and every goal requires multiple infrastructure systems. This cross-cutting nature is why the iAAi framework treats infrastructure as a unified field rather than isolated disciplines.

Key Nexus Points

The densest cluster appears around SDGs 6, 7, 9, and 11 — Clean Water, Affordable Energy, Industry & Innovation, and Sustainable Cities. These four goals collectively depend on 10 of the 12 relays, confirming that urban infrastructure is the primary delivery mechanism for sustainable development.

The Food-Energy-Water (FEW) Nexus (SDGs 2+6+7) is visible as a horizontal band across Relays 2, 3, and 8 — Tree, River, and Engine. See the dedicated FEW Nexus case study for the full analysis.
